Giant centipede eats mouse

Sunday March 26, 2006

This is probably the grossest thing I’ve ever seen. Centipedes are beneficial — they eat other insects? How about mice!? Pretty soon they’ll be eating household pets and then small children.

If any giant arthropods come within a 100 yards of me surely they will meet their end by the edge of my sword.

Edit: this video was tracked on Digg, here’s one of the comments:

I’d love to see the video of you hitting it with a stick and it climb up the stick, wrap around your arm, and bite the hell out of it. People have fear for a reason.

“Now what sort of man or woman or monster would stroke a centipede I have ever seen? ”And here is my good big centipede!” If such a man exists, I say kill him without more ado. He is a traitor to the human race.” — William Burroughs

  1. […] In a world where you have to worry about giant centipedes eating your children, you’ll now have to worry about gigantism mutations spreaing to mammals. Expect very soon to have monstrous angry hares ramming your car, pulverizing your cat and giving you mean, glowering glares while eating whole trees that stand around your house. […]

  3. The person who posted that centipede video on Youtube disabled comments in a selfish bitch-fit.

Anyhoo, anyone else find it odd the mouse in the video is a white lab mouse? i.e. it was dropped there on purpose?

  4. My Labrador puppy found one of these gross looking centipedes. It turned out to be a Giant Texas Redhead which is as poisonous as the local scorpions which the pup also finds. I was worried it may have been one of those very poisonous Singapore ones that have been found recently. After one year of bugs in Texas, I am about ready to move back to Portland, Oregon and deal with slugs. Hopefully the dog won’t find a water moccasin.

  5. Ryan Thompson was right. That little white lab mouse was dropped there on purpose. I didn’t watch the whole video because I couldn’t bear to, but a lot of people keep giant centipedes as pets and get mice from pet sotes for them as food, like you would for a snake. Again, I didn’t watch the whole video, so mabye there was something in there showing the centipede was wild. From what I saw it’s enviroment looked like a tank though. Who could kill such a poor, cute little mouse?

  6. I have never in my life read so many complaints as to how an animal eats. Of course the mouse was dropped into a tank. The man was feeding his pet. I feed baby mice to my tarantulas once a month. Centipedes rock. whiny ass people do not. Get real, this is nature. This is what animals do to each other and if you don’t like it, then change the channel.

  8. According to:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centipede#Largest_centipede

giant centipedes in the wild are known to eat bats and rodents; therefore such a video is not really surprising.
